"Self care helps prevent stress and anxiety. By incorporating self care activities into your regular routine, like going for a bush walk or socialising with friends, you give your body and mind time to rest, reset and rejuvenate, so you can avoid or reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety" Black Dog Institute
I regularly remind my yogis how important it is to fill your own cup in order to be able to give to others. If we don't replenish our energy, how can we give it away or use more of it?
Pleasure v Happiness
Key differences according to Dr Robert Lusting:
* Pleasure is short lived, happiness is long lived.
* Pleasure is taking- happiness is giving.
* Pleasure is generally experienced alone. Happiness is experienced in social groups
The extremes of pleasure all lead to addiction, whether they be substances or behaviours. Yet, there is no such thing as being addicted to too much happiness.
Self care activities are things we can do on a regular basis to help reduce stress/anxiety and enhance your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. For me it is being largely being physically active, I love to go on a bush walk, jog with our dog, play tennis, take my paddle board out on the river, mountain bike on a nice trail and do yoga, of course!
